102nd Annual Congress of Japan Society of Psychiatry and Neurology (JSPN) was hold in Fukuoka Japan, 12-14 May 2006.

Background The workshop will study the following items Through the review of the recent history and interaction in psychiatry in East Asia, the workshop will study, among others, the following issues. 1). Interaction in psychiatry in East Asia during the colonial era from 1900 ( The introduction of German psychiatry into Japan ) to 1945 ( The end of Japanese occupation). 2) Interaction in concepts and terms in psychiatry in Kanji, e,g, Seishin-igaku, Seishin-bunnretsu-byou, Shinkei-shitsu etc. 3) Recent development of collaboration in psychiatry in East Asia after the 2nd World War to the present time, e,g, Mental Health legislation, Collaboration in Research and training. 4) Ways and means to increase the role of Asian psychiatry in Global psychiatry.
