Supervision is a process whereby an experienced doctor assists as part of an educational process a less experienced colleague to integrate and improve the knowledge, attitudes and skills needed to be a competent consultant.

The aim is to integrate the resident"s theoretical knowledge, practical experiences and values in order to promote professional practice and to help the learner to review and reflect on practice.

The objectives of this DVD "Vacation time" are to give the senior consultants a short introduction to how to supervise trainees. The DVD shows a young male doctor in a conflict with a husband of one of his patients. The husband want his wife home for spending the vacation with him, while the doctor consider her too sick to be discharged from the hospital. He discusses the case with his educational supervisor and together they find a solution. The DVD illustrates a number of themes that could be discussed in supervisor - trainee dialogues.
