图片Academic Organizations

There are two main academic organizations for Chinese psychiatry: The Chinese Society of Psychiatry (CSP) which includes mostly psychiatrists; and the Chinese Association of Mental Health (CAMH) which include also nurses, teachers, psychologists and other professionals who work for mental health.

The psychiatrists in each province selected their committeemen for the CSP every four years. And later, the 35 committeemen from all over the country vote for the president of the CSP for every four years. Professor Mingyuan Zhang has been the president of the CSP since 1995. Similar system is used in the CAMH.

The CSP hold the National Conference every year, about 500 – 600 psychiatrists join the meeting.

Non-Governmental Organizations

NGOs are involved with mental health in the country. They are mainly involved in advocacy, promotion and rehabilitation. NGOs are primarily involved in raising awareness and advocacy. They have been consulted in the process of developing the National Mental Health Programme and the mental health legislation. Telephone hotlines are being set up in many cities by NGOs.
